Video Converter

Convert a browser-playable video to WebM on your device. Choose a video and output format; your file is not uploaded.

Video Converter

Choose a video your browser can play. Conversion runs locally and records at normal playback speed.

This browser can export WebM when its media recorder supports it. The other listed containers need dedicated video encoders, which are not included here.

Your selected video is never sent to a server. WebM conversion records playback in real time, so a 10-minute video can take about 10 minutes to convert. Browser playback and codec support vary.

How to use the Video Converter

  1. Click Choose a video and select a file your browser can play — a preview appears once it loads.
  2. Set Convert to to WEBM (the only export this browser version supports) and pick a Quality: Standard, High, or Smaller file.
  3. Click Convert video and keep the tab open — conversion records playback in real time, so a 10-minute video takes about 10 minutes.
  4. When it finishes, preview the result and click Download WebM to save the converted file.

Why it matters

WebM is the web-native video format: smaller files than MP4 at comparable quality, royalty-free, and playable in every modern browser without plugins. For site owners, that means faster pages, lower bandwidth bills, and better Core Web Vitals on video-heavy pages. Converting locally also keeps footage private — nothing uploads to a server — which matters for client work and unreleased content. A quick WebM conversion is often the simplest performance win for pages with background or hero videos.

Video Converter FAQs

Which formats can I export?

Only WebM, when your browser supports MediaRecorder WebM output. The format dropdown lists other containers like MP4, AVI, and MOV for reference, but they need dedicated video encoders that are not included in this browser-only version. If you need MP4 output, use a desktop converter instead.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The browser reads the selected file and records the conversion locally on your device — nothing is sent to a server. Your footage stays private, which makes the tool safe for client videos, unreleased content, and anything you would not upload to a random website.

Why does conversion take so long?

The built-in WebM conversion works by recording video during playback, so it runs in real time — a 10-minute video takes about 10 minutes to convert. Keep the tab open and the video playing until it ends; closing the tab or pausing stops the recording.

Why did my conversion fail or produce no video?

The usual causes are a browser without MediaRecorder or captureStream support, a video codec the browser cannot play, or the tab losing focus during recording. Try a current Chrome or Edge, make sure the video plays in the preview first, and keep the tab active until the conversion completes.
