How to use the Favicon Previewer

  1. Click the Choose File input and upload a PNG, SVG, ICO, JPEG or WebP image; a square 512 x 512 px source gives the most flexibility.
  2. Study the browser tab preview and the size cards from 16 x 16 up to 512 x 512 to see how much detail survives at small sizes.
  3. Read the quality box for the source dimensions, then press Copy HTML to grab the icon, PNG and apple-touch-icon link snippet for your site.

Why it matters

A favicon is the small face of your brand in browser tabs, bookmarks, history and mobile home screens. When it is crisp and recognizable, visitors spot your site faster among dozens of tabs, which builds familiarity and trust. Google also displays favicons in mobile search results, so a missing or broken icon makes a site look unfinished. Previewing at real sizes before publishing avoids the common embarrassment of a blurry or unrecognizable tab icon.

Favicon Previewer FAQs

Does this tool upload my favicon file?

No. The preview runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. The tool only scales the image visually for display; it does not resize, convert or store your original file. It is safe to preview client or brand icons without privacy concerns.

Why does my favicon look blurry at small sizes?

At 16 by 16 pixels, fine lines, small text and subtle gradients collapse into mush. Simple solid shapes, strong contrast and minimal or no text survive best. The size cards let you compare the same image at 16, 32 and 48 pixels so you can spot detail that disappears and simplify the design before launch.

What favicon sizes should I prepare?

Include 16, 32 and 48 pixel icons for browser tabs and bookmarks, a 180 pixel apple-touch-icon for iOS home screens, and 192 and 512 pixel PNGs for Android and progressive web apps. The tool previews exactly these sizes, and the copy-ready HTML snippet shows the link tags each size needs.

Does this tool create my favicon files?

No. It is a visual previewer: it shows how your existing image looks at icon sizes and tells you its dimensions. You still need to export the actual sized files in an editor or converter, then use the generated link snippet to reference them from your pages.
